Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to do the poster or can I just do the experiments? We really encourage doing the posterboard and presenting the poster on Science Fair night.

  2. Can I work with a partner? Yes.

  3. How many partners can I have?  Only up to one partner (total of 2 people)

  4. Can I work with a partner in another classroom? In most cases, yes. Please check with your teacher first and see the guidelines below

  5. Are there any other rules for working with a partner? Yes

    1. You both must pick the same science experiment.

    2. You both must leave your names with Maestra Eleanor or Maestra Jeannette (4th or 5th) OR with your classroom teacher (2nd & 3rd)

    3. You should both be in the same grade

    4. You should each get your own science kit and try the project on your own and then work with your partner for the presentation

    5. You must work together to complete the poster / cardboard

  6. What if I don't want to use one of your kits? Can I do another experiment. Yes. See the rules below. (But go ahead and get a kit anyways in case you change your mind!)

    1. You may buy an experiment from a company like https://www.sciencebuddies.org/ but you have to be very careful about time, complexity, and difficulty.

    2. Can I make my own experiment. Yes. This is even more difficult because you are doing twice the work. For example

      1. You will have to design your own experiment that follows our rubric - this is a lot of work

      2. You must get your teacher to approve it

      3. You must buy all of your own materials for making/running the experiment

  7. Do I have to make the poster / cardboard pretty or can I just do it quickly - make it clear. pretty is a choice. quickly is a choice.

  8. Why is this important? What do I get out of it? - Fun. Bragging rights. Getting ready for 5th grade where it's required. You might learn something.

  9. Do I have to do a science experiment? - No, unless you are in 5th grade. If you are in 5th grade, then it is mandatory. But …we really encourage you to try it - you’ll have support and it won’t be as hard as you think it’ll be!

  10. Will we win prizes? What are they? -- We will have a raffle for those who do a science project and who present their poster. Each grade will have their own prizes - don’t miss out!!

  11. Can I do the same experiment as last year? - Do a new one! You’ll get all new stuff and it’ll be more fun this way!
